At the end of 8th grade we got to go on a trip to
Southern California to go to Magic Mountain. I’m pretty sure it was a band
trip, I don’t think it was all of 8th grade. I hung out the whole
time with Aaron Bayless, and probably others, although I don’t remember anyone
else. I remember that it was one of the most fun times of that whole school
year. The one thing I really remember from that trip was that we were on a roller
coaster, and just as we started speeding down one of the hills, Aaron’s wallet
dislodged from his pocket and flew up…and he caught it when it was right in front of his face. Talk about quick
reflexes! Ha ha!

Haircut
I think I was in 8th grade when I decided my
bangs were too long and I wanted them trimmed. I don’t have any idea how we
did hair cuts back then, but I’m betting Mom was the official bangs trimmer in
our house. She must have had a lot going on, because I decided to cut them
myself. Teenagers are very patient, you know. And really, how hard could it be?
I got some scissors and headed to the bathroom so I could use the mirror to
make sure I cut them straight. I found my preferred length, and started
snipping. When I finished, they were crooked. So I snipped some more to
straighten them up, but they ended up crooked again. Turns out that I
straightened so much that I ended up with bangs that were about a half inch
long. It was awful! I’m sure I hid in my room and cried. I didn’t want to go to
school. I mean, seriously?
Eventually I (probably we, I know my mom would have helped
me come up with the best solution possible) decided that I should wear a
stretchy headband over my bangs to hide them and not look like a complete dork.
Although I’m pretty sure I did look like a complete dork
anyway. Ha ha!
