It Was Cold

One day we were sitting in the living room, and we heard this loud popping noise from the kitchen. Someone ran in the kitchen, probably Mom. That part is fuzzy. But there was a fire going on inside the microwave. After we got the fire put out and everything was restored to safety, we examined the big pile of goo that had been burning, and decided that it was the melted remains of what had once been a cassette tape that Mark had tried to warm.

When we asked him why in the world he put a tape in the microwave, he simply said, “It was cold.”
