Assortment

A few things stand out from my time living on Springville Way.

1) The Broadway musical Jekyll and Hyde was in pre-production, and somehow we had the music. Sam made me a tape of the songs, and I completely fell in love with the music. I listened to it in my Walkman over and over and over again, and sang my little heart out with it. Once the musical came out, the music was a little bit different, but I always loved the pre-production music more.

2) Speaking of music, it was while we lived in this house that our stake did a Best of Broadway production. I tried out, and got a solo. It was On My Own, from Les Miserables. I sang that song over and over and over again too, in all its romantic sadness. Oh me.

3) Sam had no bedroom. He was the unlucky one who had so many little sisters that there were no boys to share a room with. At this point, Mark was still little enough that he either shared with my parents or was in with the girls. But once we left Corcoran, we didn't have enough bedrooms. In the Greenwood house, Sam had a section of the garage that was set up as a bedroom for him. In the Springville house, his bedroom was the living room. He slept on the couch, and all his stuff was stored in stacks behind the couch.

4) Sam was a music collector. He had hundreds of CDs, which he kept in CD crates in alphabetical order. Sometimes he was asked to DJ the dances, and I thought that was super cool. He was always really good about playing requests.

5) Somewhere around our neighborhood, and all around Turlock, were these flowers called Star Jasmine. Even now, 24 years after having graduated high school and left, I can still smell them. It is my favorite smell ever...that star jasmine, in the blistering heat of the California sun. I wish I could insert a scent into this post. The smell of star jasmine is an extremely nostalgic and sentimental smell for me.

Springville Way

After Plumwood we moved to a two story, 3/2 house on Springville Way. This neighborhood was behind my middle school, although by this time I was a junior in high school. It was a good location...closer to schools, shopping and church. I remember a big chunk of time when I walked to seminary, simply because I could. (Probably also because of my OCD about always being on time for everything, which was easier to do when I was in control of timing. Ha ha!) This house had a garage on the left. The front door opened to a tiny entry way, the stairway straight ahead. The door leading to the garage was to the left. To the right was the living room. The back half of that room was supposed to be the dining area, because the kitchen, which was directly behind that, had no space for a table at all. There was a half bath on the left off the dining area, almost as far back as the kitchen.

Up the stairs and straight ahead was a bathroom. The first bedroom on the right was my room. For part of the time, anyway, I remember using the other bedroom as well. Down the hall, walking toward the front of the house, was another bedroom. At the end of the hall was the master bedroom and bath.

My family was living in the house on Springville at the time I left for college.

These are the pictures I have from inside this house.

Plumwood

The next house was on Plumwood. I really don't remember anything at all about the house, because we only ended up being there for a couple of months. Weird, I know. But Jared and I have done that kind of thing ourselves, so weird as it may be, it happens.
