Let Them Eat Cake

We had this thing in 137 up. We didn’t really mean it to be a thing, but looking back on it, it’s fun to realize it was a thing. Whenever anyone had a birthday, we made a cake. Roommate, FHE brother, whoever. We made a cake in a 13x9 pan, and we frosted and decorated it right there in the pan. And when it was time, we would all sit around the table, sing Happy Birthday, light the candles, and when they were blown out, we passed around the forks and all dug right in to the pan. There were no plates—we didn’t even bother cutting it. We just all dug in and ate together.  And it was fun.

Another cake for Alex's birthday!

Here is my room mate Melissa with a cake. Apparently she got hers out of the pan, but it looks like people dug into it before she even blew out the candles. LOL

Looks like we shared the pudding bowl, too!

College Boys

We had a lot of fun with our Family Home Evening brothers. Honestly, it’s been so many years that I can’t remember which of these were FHE brothers, and which were just friends we got goofy with, but here are some of our favorite college boys (in no particular order).

The only one I remember in this picture is Scott, the funny face one with his foot in the air. Ha ha! He was such a good guy. These four were roommates, and were our FHE brothers.

This was our friend Mark Gee, and we adored him because he was super funny as heck, and cute and friendly and just a really good guy all around. This pic is in his apartment, but truthfully he spent 99% of his time at our place. This is actually the only time we were ever at his house. Mark, Ann Marie, Me and Carol. (Ann Marie was not my roommate, but we were friends and are still friends in contact to this day.

Ray! Once upon a time, I saw a movie called Field Of Dreams, and for some reason I always thought of this movie when I saw Ray, because in that movie Kevin Costner's character is Ray. At one point in the movie, Ray's wife calls out to him, saying, "Ray!! Dinner!!" So we would joke around with our Ray, and when we saw him from our front porch couch, we'd call out to him, too. "Ray!! Dinner!!" I'm sure he thought we were mental, but of course he was way too nice to ever say it.

Here is Ivan, my dad's cousin, and Rebecca, me and Shelley, having a bubble blowing contest in Ivan's basement out at the farm in Sugar City.

One of the best friends of all time that I had at Ricks: Alex Hof, wearing a wig.

Here is Jason, working on breaking a home made pinata. Julie is on the left, and I'm pretty sure that's Kim's forehead that can be seen above Jason's hat. Then there's TJ and Troy, and I don't know who the others are at all.

Good ol' Steve, on his birthday. Steve was always a super nice guy, too. He was just a really genuine, nice guy.

Here we are having dinner with the guys. When we had morning church, we'd have Sunday dinner with whatever guys we felt like having over. When we had afternoon church, we'd have Sunday breakfast with whatever guys we felt like having over. I'm not sure if this was breakfast or dinner, but rest assured, we had fun.

Here are some FHE brothers tossing pizza dough in the air, and Carol back there probably waiting for it to fall. Ha!

And here's Alex again.

Steve and a roommate of his.

Here are Jason and Maggie, making a graham cracker gingerbread house. I'm pretty sure that was a family night activity one Monday night.

Me and...some guy who came over to our house. Seriously, no idea who he is. But I do remember seeing this picture once it was developed, and realizing that my glasses made me look like I had bug eyes. Ugh.

Water balloon fight!! Me and one of the guys filling up balloons.

Look, there's Alex again. I remember this night clear as a bell--Alex making us fried chicken and black eyed peas. Those black eyed peas were amazing, I had no idea they would be that good. Alex is from Arkansas, so he knew his southern food!

Alex, that guy who was with me in my bug-eyed picture, and the guy that lived with his family down the street. Why can't I remember his name? We did a lot with him. Stanley? I think?

Me and John at Pizza Hut. John was a major cowboy, and April went out with him for a bit.

Me and April, Steve and some guy named Ian, at BJs.
